Building a KPI shortlist for multi-province teams
When a business runs across several provinces, the temptation is to put every local measure on one leadership screen. That usually produces a wall of numbers that no one opens before the monthly call.
Start with the decisions regional managers actually make: staffing for peak weeks, inventory moves between warehouses, and whether a market is underperforming relative to its own baseline. Those decisions need fewer measures than most scorecards suggest.
Ask each province lead for the three figures they defend in reviews. Compare definitions side by side. Where the same label means different things — for example, “active accounts” counted weekly in one region and monthly in another — resolve the definition before anyone designs a chart.
A workable shortlist for leadership often lands between six and ten KPIs. Everything else can live in supporting packs that regional teams keep for their own operating rhythm.
Document owners and refresh cadence in plain language. The dashboard will only stay trustworthy if someone is clearly responsible for each number.
